Fewer Malaysian families have Ireland in their initial three-country shortlist than they probably should. The combination of English-language teaching, EU-recognised degrees, a two-year post-study graduate visa, and a tuition range below the UK has made Dublin and Cork a serious alternative for our applicants.
Trinity College Dublin sits inside the QS top 100; UCD and University of Galway are also globally ranked. The Irish degree carries the same Bologna Process credit weight as a German or French degree — your credentials are recognised across the EU and frequently treated as comparable to a UK award.
The biggest mover for Malaysian students has been Dublin's tech and pharma sector. Stripe, Meta, Google EMEA HQ, Pfizer, Janssen and Microsoft all maintain Dublin operations that hire fresh graduates aggressively. The two-year Third Level Graduate Programme (Stamp 1G) gives you a generous window to land that first role.
Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin (UCD), University College Cork (UCC), University of Galway and Dublin City University (DCU) take the bulk of our placements. Trinity for arts, computing and law; UCD for engineering and business; UCC for pharmacy and food science; Galway for biomedical and Celtic studies; DCU for journalism and computing.

Shortlist universities. Most Irish applications go through CAO (similar to UCAS) opening in early November.
Submit CAO application by 1 February deadline. Some universities accept direct international applications outside CAO.
Receive conditional offers from late March onwards. Sit final exams and IELTS if needed.
Confirm offer, pay deposit, lodge Stamp 2 student visa application. Allow 8-12 weeks for processing.
Book housing (Dublin is competitive — start months earlier ideally), organise PPS number registration on arrival.
Orientation, Garda registration within 90 days, bank account opening, mobile SIM.
After completing a level 8 (bachelor's) degree you get 12 months of unrestricted work permission. Level 9 (masters) and 10 (PhD) graduates get 24 months. During this period you can work full-time without a separate work permit. The vast majority of Malaysian graduates use this to land a permanent role in the Dublin tech or pharma corridor.
Dublin is expensive — budget EUR 14-18k a year for accommodation, food and basic social life. Cork, Galway and Limerick run 25-35% cheaper. Housing is the dominant variable: shared house in Cork around EUR 600/month; comparable in Dublin EUR 850-1,100. Start your housing search early.
IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 is the typical undergraduate threshold. Masters programmes ask for IELTS 6.5-7.0. PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT and Cambridge C1 Advanced are also accepted. Some Malaysian students with strong SPM English or A-Level English qualify for waivers.
Ireland's Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships (GOI-IES) is the largest single scheme — competitive but generous (EUR 10,000 stipend plus tuition waiver). Most universities also offer entry merit scholarships of EUR 2,000-6,000 for international applicants. Trinity, UCD and UCC publish dedicated Asian scholarship rounds.
CAO is the central application system for Irish higher education. You rank up to 20 programmes in order of preference. International applications often go direct to the university instead, but CAO is required for some courses. Your advisor will advise on the right route per programme.
Ireland is one of the safer English-speaking destinations. Crime rates are low and student-targeted issues are rare. The Garda (police) maintain student outreach programmes in Dublin, Cork and Galway. Malaysian and Indonesian student associations are active in all major cities.
